Why Private Pay?

Allow us to share with you why many of our clients choose to pay for their counseling apart from insurance companies. To have therapy services covered under insurance, you must have a mental health diagnosis. Private paying clients often desire to have their permanent health record void of their mental health diagnosis, and prevent insurance companies from having legal access to their diagnosis, treatment plan and case notes containing a great deal of personal information.

As a private paying client you can be assured of the following:

  • No contact needed with a third-party payer (i.e. insurance company)

  • Ability to choose your counselor based on the needs and values you desire

  • Ability to determine length of treatment and care

You can be confident that your care and personal information is held to the highest standard of privacy allowed by Minnesota laws and statutes.

To help make counseling more affordable, pre-payment cash discounts, sliding-scale fee based on gross income, grant subsidies are possible.

Sliding fee: Between $30 and $150

Many of our clients utilize their Health Savings or Flex Savings Account (HSA/FSA)

Other Payment Options

You may also choose to involve your insurance company to provide partial reimbursement through Out-of-Network benefits. We can provide you with a receipt containing appropriate diagnosis codes to submit to your insurance. Please verify your current insurance benefits before planning to use this form of partial-payment.

If you choose to utilize your In-Network insurance benefits and do not want to use self-pay, we will be happy to accommodate your request.

Preferred One and Medical Assistance

We understand that it may be financially difficult for some to utilize self-pay counseling services. If you feel you cannot afford the full fee per 50-minute session, then calculate the sliding fee for each session as follows; divide your annual gross income for all wage earners in the household during the most recent tax year by the number 1000. This will give you an approximation of the sliding fee for each 50-minute session. Example: if the gross annual income for all wage earners in the household is $40,000, then divide it by1000, and the sliding fee is $40 for each session.A minimum fee of $30is requested per 50-minute session. We can discuss this fee scale when you come in for your first session or free 20-minute consultation.
Payment Options
Payment is made at time of the session. We accept cash, check, credit cards, and money orders as forms of payment. Remember you may also use your FSA or HSA to pay for your sessions.

Cancellation Policy

If you do not show up for your scheduled appointment, and you have not notified my office at least 24 hours in advance, you will be required to pay the full cost of the treatment as previously discussed.
